Michelene joined us two summers ago coming to us after inquiring about our League and then meeting us at the Hall during our renovations.  Most of us were all covered in dust and sporting renovation fashions so her first impression of the team must have been quite interesting, but her friendly nature, caring, and open-mindedness saw through it all.

At the heart of our rebranding and community rejuvenation campaign, it was almost destiny that we met.  With her background in communications and marketing, Michelene helped us immensely by leading us through this exercise and taking us to a whole new level of promotion, vision, organizational awareness, engagement, and appearance.

Refining and maintaining our new website, upping our social media game considerably, and in her creation of this newsletter, Michelene brought Knottwood to the forefront of league communications and publicity.

Michelene has consistently been one of our hardest working and committed Board members. With all of her talents, realism, ability to generate new and intuitive ideas, her perception of community, and with her light-hearted personality, she was quickly also asked to join the Board’s Executive.

The Board and Community are very fortunate to have Michelene on the team not only for her dedication and continued guidance through our rejuvenation, but as a friend, neighbour, and representative.

About.
Name:  Michelene Deck
Position on the Board: 2nd Vice President and Communications Director
Family demographic: I live with my partner, Ray; one dog, Winston and one cat, Steve.

How long have you been a resident of Knottwood: 5 years

Why do you choose to volunteer and dedicate your time to us:
In addition to it being a great way to meet your neighbours and make new friends, I’m really interested in community building and looking at ways that we can help with social isolation in our neighbourhood. I also really love this area and want to help get the word out about how great of a place Knottwood (and Millwoods) is to live.

What is your favourite part of living in Knottwood:
I enjoy living in an established neighbourhood with all of the trees and walking paths — this area is so beautiful in every season. I also feel very lucky that we have our own off-leash dog park. I’m very excited about the community revitalization activities that are in the works, including the build of the new Knottwood Community Centre and Community Garden.

What do you do as a career:
I am a marketing/communications manager and piano teacher.

What do you like to do for fun:
Reading, cooking, spending time outdoors, making music, dog walks in our amazing Alberta green spaces, interior design, thrifting and hanging out with animals.
