The City of Edmonton’s Urban Forestry department will be relocating a number of mature trees from the Walker neighbourhood into Menisa Park. This effort is in partnership with Integrated Infrastructure Services and is part of the development of a new fire hall in the Walker neighbourhood, which requires the removal or relocation of 16 trees.
10 trees will be transplanted and share between Summerside and Menisa Park, starting in October.
Why Trees Matter
Growing Edmonton’s urban forest offers numerous environmental, ecological, and social benefits. Trees help purify air, sequester carbon, improve water quality, reduce erosion, support wildlife, and promote well-being and mental health. With thoughtful care, these benefits can thrive for generations.
What to Expect
Once the trees are transplanted, additional soil, wood mulch, and tree stakes will be added to the area to help with moisture retention and nutrient supply. The trees will be watered by City-contracted water trucks to ensure their successful establishment.
