SUMMARY:Help the Bees! Bee Hotel Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that much of the food that you eat owes itself to pollinators? The majority of pollinators are insects\, such as  butterflies\, moths\, flies\, beetles\, wasps\, and especially bees!\nAlberta is home to over 300 species of bees\, most of which are solitary bees: they are not aggressive and are also very efficient pollinators.\nPollinators and bees are declining for a number of reasons\, including: habitat loss\, pesticide use\, and climate change. We need solitary bees to pollinate our plants\, including our vegetable plots\, flower gardens and agricultural crops. \nYou can help Edmonton’s bees!\nJoin us for this Help the Bees: Bee Hotel Workshop  where you will create a bee hotel for your backyard from a kit provided by the Edmonton and Area Land Trust. You will also learn more about what you can do to help bees and other pollinators. Bee hotels attract tunnel-nesting\, non-aggressive solitary bees and other solitary pollinators\, which lay their eggs in the tunnels of the hotel. By placing these in your yard\, you will help to create much needed habitat and in turn\, will also be introducing more pollinators to help your flower and vegetable gardens. \nParticipants must bring their own fully-charged cordless drill (with extra battery if possible)\, and should be comfortable using it. All other tools and supplies will “bee” provided! \nThis workshop is open to adults and children aged 5+. Children 13 and under must be registered with an adult.  Maximum of two adults or one adult and two children per bee hotel kit. For families with two adults and two+ children\, two bee hotel kits will need to be purchased. \nWorkshop provided by: Edmonton and Area Land Trust\nMay 25\, 2018\n7 to 9 p.m.\nKnottwood Community Hall \nCost/Registration Info: (Per Bee Hotel Kit)\nCommunity League members (any league): $30\nNon-members: $40 \nIn order to ensure we have enough participants\, please register below by May 21. \nLearn more about bee hotels and pollinators \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nPhotos courtesy of Edmonton Area Land Trust \nQuestions?\nEmail communications@knottwoodcommunity.ca \n  \n  \n\n \nLet us know what other gardening events/topics you’d like to learn about! \nThis event is being held as part of our 2018 Garden program.  If you’re interested in receiving information on other 2018 gardening events\, please register here and we will add you to our Gardening Program email list. \nBe sure to let us know what other gardening related topics you’re interested in learning about\, and we will attempt to set up workshops\, if we can. \nFollow us on Facebook and join the Knottwood Community Group for up-to-the-minute info for upcoming events. \n
